What Are Featured Snippets?
Try typing a question into Google and watch what happens. Typically, Google will show you a search result in the form of what is called a “featured snippet.” That is the special feature box at the top of the page that provides you with the best answer to the question that you just asked. Sometimes, the result will be in paragraph form. Sometimes, it will be a list. A featured snippet could even be in recipe form, if someone were to ask Google “How to make bread,” for example.
Your potential clients will see this when they are searching legal questions and terms, as well. When you are blogging, you should keep this feature in mind and think about how you can take advantage of it. If you are aiming to put content in your blog posts to appear in featured snippets, there are factors that have been proven to work. For starters:
· Identify a common, simple question that is related to your law firm’s practice areas.
· Provide a clear, direct, and simple answer to the question.
· Offer additional information that is valuable – and beyond the simple answer to the question.
· Make the question and answer simple (for search engines) to find in your blog post.
How Do I Set Up a Featured Snippet?
The question that you are answering should be in a header in your blog post, just like the words “How Do I Set Up a Featured Snippet” above. Then, the answer should be provided below the header, just like the paragraph you are reading right now. Remember to be clear and concise in your answer, as well as provide everything that someone would want to know about the question that you have posed.
You may not rank for the featured snippets that you include in your blog posts, but Hubspot demonstrates how even the blog posts and articles that rank in the fourth and fifth position below the website or blog that is chosen as the featured snippet get myriads of traffic. So, your law blog does not have to be chosen as the featured snippet to get a great amount of traffic. It just has to land on the first page below the featured snippet, so by adding content that could be considered featured snippets, you are increasing your blog’s chance of rising up the search engine ranks.
